Integers – Basic understanding

When you watch this video, you will see that integers can be thought of moving up and down in an elevator/lift. When moving up, the sign will be positive and when moving down, the sign will be negative. Once you rotate the lift example 90 degrees clockwise, you will end up with a number line where moving to the right-hand side will be positive and moving to the left-hand side will be negative.

The notation of integers is as follows: ℤ = {… -3; -2; -1; 0; 1; 2; 3; …} When comparing integers, such as -3 and -5, the -5 is smaller than the -3 as it is more to the left-hand side of the number line. It is further away from the positive side. If you think in terms of the elevator/lift, then 5 floors below zero is further down than 3 floors below.
